Why Read This Book
This book offers a different take on the traditional alphabet book – and I find that to be refreshing.
If you are a family who lives on a homestead or farm, if you follow an animal-based diet, if you are members of Weston A. Price Foundation, or follow similar dietary principles – this books supports all that you are doing and will be relatable for your children.
This book was published by a small publishing house. This type of publishing leads to content that doesn’t follow a set template. As I mentioned previously in this article, it’s refreshing. Smaller publishers also bring us voice we might not hear otherwise – giving us what I call diversity of content.
It’s a beautiful book. I love beautiful books for how they enrich life for our children and ourselves.

A Real Food Alphabet is an excellent book; however it’s not always easy to find a copy. At this time I cannot find the book for purchase through any of my usual sources – which I know is disappointing. But stay with me on this one and keep reading.
First, know that a reprint is being considered. You can help that process by signing onto the list to be notified when it’s available for purchase again. Go to this webpage to do that (scroll down the page for the form). I also recommend watching for it at all the places you buy used books.
Next, use this same webpage at NourishingOurChildren.org to see and enjoy some pages from the book. The website includes other educational resources you may find interesting.
You can watch a video of the author reading the book. Try using this video like an audiobook while looking at a copy of the book that is borrowed from your library.
Definitely request the book from your local library. By requesting it you can enjoy the book with your family and at the same time let your library know the types of books you’d like them to include on the shelves.
If you’d like to purchase a copy of the book, try searching for it periodically at the places that sell books, like Bookshop, Amazon, Thriftbooks, Biblio, and Ebay.
When this book is reprinted, you will be able to purchase it new on NourishingOurChildren.org.
Last thing … I know it may seem super crazy for a book blog to include a review of a book that is hard to get. But my purpose at Beehive Books and Art is to let you know about as many of the great kids books as possible. Books fall out of print; it’s reality. When we tell people about the book and encourage requests at libraries – that effort is part of what it takes to bring great books back into publication. This alphabet book is super darling and performs so well with kids. In an ocean of alphabet books, this one stands out for it’s originality, use of photographs, and inclusion of a few challenging words.

Looking for Other Alphabet Books That Break the Mold?
While I love the more traditional alphabet books I must admit I am a fan of discovering alphabet books that break that traditional mold.
Another great alphabet book I love is The Hebridean Alphabet. Check my post about it here.
