Plus tips to raise kids who love to read, art and activities inspired by books!
The Many, Many Places and Ways to Get Books!
Research says that having a print-rich environment at home is a key predictor of a child’s success in later life. They say it’s pretty simple – have lots of reading material. (Source: The Read-Aloud Handbook).
But. Yes, there is a “but.” Which is that new books can be expensive. That can make it challenging to build a home library full of wonderful books your kids will want to read. Without breaking your bank account!
I ran into this same problem once. When my son was born I found so many books that I knew he would enjoy. Purchasing them new would have cost a small fortune.
Over time I figured out how to build a home library for a fraction of the cost. Plus this journey introduced me to so many books that we love. Books that I never would have found if I only bought them new.

Testimonials
We love sharing messages from families we’ve worked with on their journey to raising a reader.
“I want to tell you that my daughter’s been having us read Rapunzel every night. She loves that story. Sometimes I try to substitute Rapunzel with Madeline and she says ‘No’, read Rapunzel again. We giggle, she loves it. And it puts a smile on my face telling you lol.”
[This read-aloud dad is referring to the Rapunzel included in Chloe Perkins’ outstanding Once Upon a World Series. I gave his little girl a copy of the book at one point. This darling series of board books gives traditional fairy tales a thoughtful multicultural take. It also includes versions of Cinderella, The Princess and the Pea, and Snow White.
