Finding the Very Best Kid’s Books
Hi! I’m Sarah, and I’m on a mission to find the very best children’s books and share those books with you.
I’m also on a mission to identify exactly what we as parents can do to help our children discover the potential in books. Whatever their interest or ability. Because potential is exactly what books hold for our kids. The potential for enjoyment. The potential to learn a new skill. The potential to explore all that the world offers.
When it comes to helping our kids learn to read I don’t worry much about reading levels or phonics or sight words. I know that the research shows again and again that we can teach our kids to read by reading books to them. It seems like it would be harder than that, but the good news is that it’s not.
We as parents just need a bit of help with how to pick books to read to our kids. Help finding the great books plus the great authors and illustrators and publishers. The ones who understand great children’s literature and put their all into creating great books. Teaching reading for me comes down to equipping us as parents with the information and support we need.
That’s where Beehive Books and Art comes in. Here on this website, and in our independent bookshop (opening in 2025) we help you navigate the world of kids books. Our articles focus on:
- Books for children from babies to age 12, from no ability to read to fluent readers.
- Art especially the art in books, the materials that illustrators use to create that art, and how we can get those materials for our kids – – so they can create art too.
- How to help our kids learn to love reading including what the experts say and resources that can help.
- The world of children’s literature – the authors, illustrators, and publishers, the history, and the trends.
So we can all help our kids find a true love of reading and find books that will unlock the world for them.
